MATH 156 - College Algebra A review and study of algebraic topics including equations and inequalities, algebraic, exponential, and logarithmic functions, systems of equations and inequalities. Emphasis is placed on application and review of skills. A student who has earned credit in MATH 186 - Precalculus may subsequently enroll in MATH 156 and/or MATH 157 - Plane Trigonometry , counting all grades in grade point averages, but receiving only three credits toward graduation. This is not a course designed to introduce algebra to students for the first time.
Prerequisites: Placement based on sufficiently strong high school background and score on the Mathematics Placement Exam. Credits: 3 NOTE:
* MATH 156 and MATH 157 together fulfill the Elementary Functions Essential Skill of the Liberal Studies Program.
** This course counts toward the 63-credit Liberal Arts and Sciences (LAS) graduation requirement.
