MUSI 530 - Topics in Contemporary Music A seminar intended for senior and graduate level music majors, students assume active roles in all parts of the teaching/learning process. Emphasis is on contemporary music traditions outside of the concert (tradition), including jazz, world music, folk music, and selected popular music traditions, within their historical, musical and cultural context. Analytic techniques appropriate for improvised and aurally transmitted music are explored, along with an examination of selected non-Western music theories. Assignments may include research, performance, composition, presentations and examinations.
Credits: 3 NOTE:
* Honors Scholar Course.
** This course counts toward the 63-credit Liberal Arts and Sciences (LAS) graduation requirement.
