HIST 374 - History of American Law This course focuses on the development of law in the United States, circa 1600-2000, and the connections between law and other aspects of American history. The field of legal history includes the study of the causes, development, and effects of the principles and realities underlying all aspects of law; legal institutions such as courts, legislatures, and administrative agencies; public policy; charters and constitutions; procedures and administration involved in law; important court decisions and the issues and laws that shaped them; written laws, individually and collectively; and the relationships between all of these aspects of law and society, the economy, culture, the environment, and many other aspects of the world.
Prerequisite: A 100 or 200 level U.S. history class is recommended Credits: 3 NOTE:
* This course counts toward the 63-credit Liberal Arts and Sciences (LAS) graduation requirement.
