JAPN 324 - Japanese Linguistics and Language

This course helps refine students’ knowledge of Japanese as they attain a deep understanding of the language. By studying linguistic analysis-based descriptions of the language, students will come to understand how grammatically difficult elements work in such a way that newly gained knowledge will help them use the language correctly. Comparison with English and other languages will be made to help students see language diversity as an example of adaptability of human cognition. The course includes lectures, students’ presentations of analyses of Japanese dialects and summarizing chapters of the grammar book.
