CMDS 489 - Capstone in Communication Disorders

This course is designed to provide a capstone experience for communication disorders majors. There will be a focus on integrative learning through principles of general semantics, with a primary aim to help students become aware of the interactions between words, perceptions, and behavior, and particularly how language both affects and effects belief and even action. Class and small group discussion, along with the writing of papers and journal entries will encourage greater responsiveness to language and greater skill in using language, measuring textbook concepts against their own observation and extensional experience. In parallel, there will be an opportunity to develop and deliver a community education project related to communication disorders, allowing students to apply the academic content of their major.
