CMDS 568 - Speech Sound Disorders


This course provides an advanced overview of evaluation and treatment methods for speech sound disorders (including both articulation and phonological disorders), enabling the student to effectively assess speech sound disorders and design an appropriate therapeutic program. Etiologies, types of speech sound disorders, defining characteristics, associated problems, and influence of accents/dialects on speech sound production will be examined. Students will integrate and apply foundational knowledge about basic human communication (including knowledge of phonetics, normal speech and language development, and basic articulation and phonology) to clinical scenarios.

Prerequisites: Consent of instructor.
