ED 511G - Practicum in the Diagnosis and Remediation of Reading Disabilities: Secondary This course is a practicum in teaching individual students at the secondary level (grades 7-12) with reading difficulties. Assessment of the reader’s strengths and needs is followed by the implementation of individualized instruction designed to assist the child in becoming a better reader. Experiences are provided in diagnosis, instructional planning for remediation, on-going evaluation of reading progress, and communication with parents.
The practicum course will be facilitated with online, on-site, and on campus components. Students will assess, then develop plans for and conduct fifteen hours of instruction with a struggling reader in their local communities. PLEASE NOTE: This experience requires student involvement with a minor student. It will be the student’s responsibility to identify a student with whom to work and to obtain a signed parental and school permission form prior to engaging in any work with the student.
