GREK 200 - Intermediate Classical Greek I


Learn the language of ancient Athens (5th century BCE) with an emphasis on Greek culture. This is the third of three courses (100, 101, and 200) that introduces the basic grammar and vocabulary of the Attic dialect of ancient Greek. As students acquire this knowledge, they will earn access to foundational works in the fields of history (Herodotus, Thucydides), philosophy (Plato, Aristotle), literature (Homer, Sappho, Euripides, Sophocles), medicine (Hippocrates), and religious studies (Homeric Hymns, Hesiod, and New Testament). Cultural topics in this third course include Athenian democracy, the Peloponnesian War, and ancient education.
