HIST 3085 - Global World War I

The Great War changed everything, it was truly global, and its legacy can still be seen today in every part of the world. This course provides both an overview of the Great War and the examination of key issues, particularly the experiences of those who fought in the war and the imperial dimensions of the conflict. These themes will be explored further in specific case studies of the war in Africa, Asia, and Southeast Asia. A field-trip to the National World War I Memorial and Museum, in Kansas City, Missouri, will examine the relationship between public history and the Great War, especially in terms of framing it as a global event.
