ENG 226 - World Literatures: Topics

This course examines topics and/or time periods in literature from around the world (but outside of the U.S. and Britain). Topics, time periods, authors, and texts may vary. Analysis of the topic stresses both works’ intrinsic values and their contributions to world cultures. Students will learn more about the historical, cultural, and intellectual background of the literature, including increased intercultural awareness of ideologies, genres, genders, and social classes. Because world cultures are often misunderstood and misrepresented due to xenophobia and racism, the work in this class is explicitly antiracist and inclusive. May be repeated under different topics. The Post-Colonial Literature section of ENG 226 fulfills the Intercultural Interconnecting Perspectives of the Dialogues.
