Foreign Language Teacher Preparation Minor


The interdisciplinary minor in Foreign Language Teacher Preparation provides initial training for Classical and Modern Language students who want to explore teaching languages but who do not seek K-12 teacher certification. The minor emphasizes linguistic knowledge (how languages work), educational theory (how people learn), with advanced written and oral skills in the target language. It also features a high impact learning experience related to language and culture. [NOTE: Completion of this minor does not result in teaching certification.]

This minor requires the successful completion of 18-21 credit hours as described below.

ED 393 - Clinical Experiences in Teaching  and ED 394 - Experiences in Classroom Teaching  must be taken together; for ED 394, the field experience placement and supervision is to be arranged, monitored and evaluated by CML rather than ED.

A maximum of two courses (4-8 credit hours) may double count for this minor and any major.

No grade of “D” will be accepted toward the Foreign Language Teacher Preparation minor.
