English Minor

Students who complete the English minor gain an understanding of how literary and cultural texts are created and learn how to meaningfully engage with them. The coursework students pursue in the minor helps them acquire a sophisticated set of tools for analytical reading, writing, and research.

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS:

  1. A 2.00 GPA in minor requirements.
  2. At least nine hours of the program requirements must be completed at Truman State University.
  3. Only grades of “C” and higher are accepted toward the English minor.

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS:

The English minor requires the successful completion of ENG 209 - WE/Dialogues with Literature  OR ENG 211 - Perspectives on Literature and Film  OR ENG 280 - Film Form and Sense  and at least 12 additional credits from courses approved for the BA English major, with the following restrictions:

  • At least 4 credits with an ENG prefix must be completed at the 300-level or above.
  • Students may double count one or two courses from another major or minor toward the English minor, for a maximum of 8 credits.
  • A maximum of four (4) credits of ENG 327  ENG 451 , and ENG 452  may count toward the English minor.
  • Up to 4 combined credits of practical application courses may count toward the English minor. These courses include ENG 327 , CRWT 451  & CRWT 452 , ENG 451  & ENG 452 , LING 451  & LING 452 .

ENG 152  and ENG 190  do not fulfill the requirements of the English minor.
