This combination of courses provides students with a foundation in animal welfare issues, how to address and assess animal welfare, how to prevent and treat disease, and to care for animals in the captive environment.

Micro-credential Requirements:

A 2.00 GPA in micro-credential requirements.
At least nine hours of the program requirements must be completed at Truman State University.
The successful completion of all courses with a grade of ‘C’ or better.

The Laboratory Animal Care Micro-credential requires completion of the following coursework:

AGSC 215 - Principles of Animal Agriculture Credit(s): 4
AGSC 428 - Animal Welfare Credit(s): 3
2 of the following 3 courses:
AGSC 322 - Animal Health Credit(s): 3
AGSC 429 - Domestic Animal Behavior Credit(s): 3
BIOL 391 - Internship for Biology Majors I Credit(s): 4 to 12 and BIOL 392 - Evaluation and Analysis of Internship I Credit(s): 1 *

* 3 credit hours of appropriate (zoo, live animal facility, herpetarium) internal or external BIOL internship (2 hrs of internship; 1 hr analysis). Biology department chair approval is required to count an internship towards a micro-credential.
