PHRE 314 - Chinese Religions This course is a survey of Chinese religious traditions, including early Chinese worldviews, Taoism, Confucianism, and Buddhism. We explore the development of each religion in a larger historical context. Coverage focuses on the main characteristics of each religion, the interaction among the various traditions, and their influences on Chinese people’s daily lives and ways of thinking. Through lecture, discussion, and audio-visual presentation, this course aims to provide a general understanding of what religion has meant for the Chinese and what role religion has played in the Chinese culture and society.
