PHYS 375 - Vibrations and Waves


Physical systems disposed to simple harmonic motion and wave phenomena are studied in depth. In particular, following topics are covered in the course: free, damped and driven simple harmonic motion, resonance, coupled oscillations, normal modes, vibrations of continuous systems, Fourier analysis, progressive waves, Phase and group velocity, polarization, interference, and diffraction of waves.

Prerequisites: A grade of C” or higher in PHYS 195 - Physics I .
Credits: 3

* This course counts toward the 63-hour Liberal Arts and Sciences (LAS) graduation requirement.
