JINS 320 - Development of the Book An interdisciplinary investigation of the history of the book from antiquity to the present, this course uniquely balances classroom discussion, interaction with artifacts in Truman’s Special Collections, and hands-on studio practice in papermaking, printmaking, and bookmaking. Students will study the socio-cultural underpinnings of reading and literacy; recreate historical book components; and analyze the book as an artifact. Course content will focus on watershed literary revolutions, such as the advent of the codex, movable type, and textual digitization. Global and multicultural contributions to the history of the book will be featured. A special course fee will apply.
Prerequisite: JINS eligibility (55-95 credits applied). Credit(s): 3 Course Attribute(s):
