PHRE 302 - Islam The development and impact of Islam are examined in the light of its past and present cultural and historical settings and on the basis of the textual traditions. Close attention is given to Muhammad’s life and the spread and practices of the Muslim community. A reading of the Qur’an highlights subsequent traditions that lead to Sunni, Shi’i, and Sufi movements and schools of thought.
