MUSI 213 - Perspectives in Music: The Music of Kansas City


This course is a Study Away course, focusing on the history and music of Kansas City, Missouri. The focus of the study will be on the intercultural interactions of White and Black Kansas City throughout the 20th and 21st century, and how these interactions shaped the city’s important musical contributions. The course will fulfill two components of the Dialogues Curriculum, the Arts & Humanities Disciplinary Perspective, and the Intercultural Interconnecting Perspective. The course will feature visits to museums, music venues, and important landmarks of the city, preceded by an opening discussion led by the instructor.
