CMDS 662G - Aphasia: Assessment and Treatment


This course will focus on the study of aphasia - an acquired language disorder, as a result of a left hemisphere cerebrovascular accident or related disorders. The history of aphasiology, symptomatology and etiology, models of classification of aphasia, assessment and treatment efficacy, and evidence-based practice will all be discussed. The underlying medical disorders that can affect the prognosis of aphasia will be discussed to heighten the student’s awareness of the medical context with which an aphasia syndrome may be found.

Prerequisite: CMDS 567G - Neural Bases of Speech, Language, and Swallowing . Corequisites: CMDS 681G - Advanced Clinical Practice .
