HLTH 405 - Global Public Health

This course explores primary and secondary level disease prevention in the global community with a focus on current global health issues such as infectious disease outbreaks, nutrition insufficiency in low and middle-income countries, social determinants of health, climate change, environmental injustice, the United States Sustainable Development Goals, health equity, and child and maternal health. Students will plan, implement, and evaluate campus activities in recognition of World Polio Day. Course content emphasizes multicultural competencies and ethical frameworks for effective global health interventions, and the recent successes and failures of non-governmental organizations and the World Health Organization.

Prerequisite: Grade of “C” or better in HLTH 366 - Program Assessment and Planning (or concurrent enrollment) and (health science major) or (grade of “C” or better in HLTH 255 - Introduction to Community and Public Health and Health Studies minor) or (instructor permission).
