HIST 3310 - History of American Law


This course focuses on the development of law in the United States, ca. 1600-2000, and the connections between law and other aspects of American history. The field of legal history includes the study of the causes, development, and effects of the principles and realities underlying all aspects of law; legal institutions such as courts, legislatures, and administrative agencies; public policy; charters and constitutions; procedures and administration involved in law; important court decisions and the issues and laws that shaped them; written laws, individually and collectively; and the relationships between all of these aspects of law and society, the economy, culture, the environment, and many other aspects of the world.

Prerequisite: A prior college-level History class is recommended.
