MS 198 - American Military History

This course focuses on developing the basic knowledge of American Military history from colonial origins to the “war on terrorism,” and explores the professional evolution of the United States Army from its militia roots to the formidable fighting force of today. Military History is a prism through which we can view our past, better understand the present, and learn from the successes and failures of others. Students will read, analyze, write, and discuss tactical, operational, and strategic facets of American military history with specific focus on the United States Army. Each student will scrutinize the success or failure of American land forces during a particular battle or campaign by analyzing the effects of leadership, tactics, and technology on the outcome.
