POL 210 - Law and Society

What values does the law embody? What are the functions of the law and the legal system? How do our economic system, our religious traditions, and our suspicion of government affect the creation of the legal system and the operation of the law, from what counts as a legal infraction, to the structure of legal education, to who gets quality legal representation? In the course, we will examine theoretical foundations, the role of politics in law, questions of justice and inequality, and ethical concerns.
