JUST 403 - The 1st Amendment: Fight for Free Speech

This class focuses on the 1st Amendment and how it impacts freedom of speech and freedom of the press. The 1st Amendment and the oftentimes countervailing values it protects will be examined through a variety of sources. In particular, students will study major Supreme Court cases, including cases from recent years, critically reflecting on how the Supreme Court’s rulings have impacted society. Students will analyze existing Supreme Court precedent and learn how to apply its legal reasoning to undecided, currently evolving issues confronting our society today.
