JINS 353 - Ethical Implications of the Human Genome Project

Students will gain an understanding of the scientific methods and techniques involved in the Human Genome Project and the results that are being obtained. They will be able to discuss and defend, from a variety of philosophical viewpoints, different issues that have arisen as a result of this information, such as: genetic testing, cloning, genetic discrimination, forensic DNA testing, genetic evolution, and genotherapy.

Prerequisite: Junior status.
Credits: 3 hours
NOTE: This course fulfills the Junior Interdisciplinary Writing-Enhanced Seminar Interconnecting Perspective of the Liberal Studies Program.
NOTE: This course counts toward the 63-hour Liberal Arts and Sciences (LAS) graduation requirement.
