DS 120 - What is Disability? An Introductory Colloquium on Disability Studies This introductory seminar explores the contrast between the traditional view of disabled people as medically “broken” with the emerging view of disabled people as members of an oppressed minority group with its own history and culture. Students explore how and to what extent disability has played a role, and been shaped by, the political, military, economic, socio-cultural, technological, medical, and religious world at any given time, including the present.
