HLTH 245 - Substance Abuse Prevention This course provides an overview of the field of substance abuse prevention, the public health model of substance abuse prevention, and health education/prevention theory and research. The course focuses on ‘What the Health Education Specialist Needs to Know and Be Able to Do’ in a systems approach to community-wide substance abuse prevention following the strategic prevention framework: asset/resource assessment, community readiness, capacity building, prioritizing/targeting efforts, planning/best practices, implementation, cultural competence, evaluation/core measures, and sustainability.
Prerequisite: Exercise Science or Health Science major. Credits: 3 When Offered: (spring only) NOTE: The Health Science Course Fee applies to this course.
