English Minor

The English major focuses on language, writing skills, and the theoretical, cultural and historical diversities that shape literary tradition. Forge your own path and specialty by choosing from nearly 100 diverse courses — from Beowulf to gender theory, film studies to Russian drama, linguistics to children’s literature.

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS:

  1. A 2.00 GPA in minor requirements.
  2. At least nine hours of the program requirements must be completed at Truman State University.
  3. No grade of “D” is accepted toward the English minor.

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS:

The English minor requires the successful completion of ENG 209 - Introduction to English: Writing about Literature  or ENG 211 - Critical Explorations of Literature and Film  and at least 12 additional credits from courses approved for the BA English major, with the following restrictions:

  • At least 4 credits with an ENG prefix must be completed at the 300-level or above.
  • Students may double count one or two courses from another major or minor toward the English minor, for a maximum of 8 credits.
  • A maximum of three (3) credits of ENG 327  ENG 451 , and ENG 452  may count toward the English minor.
  • ENG 152  and ENG 190  do not fulfill the requirements of the English minor.
