MASTER OF ACCOUNTANCY
In recognition of the extensive body of knowledge needed for the professional practice of public accounting, the School of Business offers a Master of Accountancy degree program. States have different requirements for taking the CPA Exam and obtaining a CPA license. Truman’s Master of Accountancy program meets the requirements for licensure in Missouri. The Master of Accountancy requires 30 credit hours of coursework and can be completed online or in person. The required coursework can be completed in as little as one year, but must be completed within six years of starting the program.
ACCREDITATION
The Master of Accountancy program is accredited by AACSB International-The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business.
MISSION STATEMENT
Building on liberal arts and sciences education, Truman accounting graduates will integrate analytical, research, communication, interpersonal and critical thinking skills with business and financial knowledge to be effective financial professionals and prospective leaders.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
To be considered for admission, students must meet the following requirements:
- Hold a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution.
- Have a cumulative grade point average of 3.00 or higher. Consideration is given to students who have a 3.00 GPA in the last 60 credits of coursework.
- Truman Accounting or Business Administration graduates: GMAT not required.
All other students: GMAT scores at or above the 50th percentile. Consideration is given to students scoring below the 50th percentile who have a cumulative accounting GPA of at least a 3.0 for accounting courses taken at AACSB Accredited Schools.
- Submit one letter of recommendation.

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
Each Master of Accountancy candidate must satisfy the following requirements:
- Have cumulative 3.00 GPA in graduate courses.
- Complete at least 24 credits of required graduate-level courses at Truman.
- Complete at least 18 credits of 500- and 600-level accounting courses.
- Complete at least 15 credits of 600-level courses.
- Complete at least 30 credits of required graduate courses.
- Pass a written comprehensive examination.
ASSISTANTSHIPS
Graduate Teaching/Research Assistantships (GTRAs) are awarded on a competitive basis. GTRAs are assigned to one-quarter time teaching, research, or other responsibilities. Factors that will be considered in appointing GTRAs include involvement in the following activities:
- student organizations (leadership positions given preference);
- service activities;
- internships and other related work experience;
- other extra-curricular activities demonstrating engagement beyond academics;
- grade point average (GPA) in accounting and business courses (a minimum GPA of 3.25 in accounting and business courses is required to be considered for a GTRA position).
