Environmental Studies Minor

With Truman’s interdisciplinary environmental studies minor, students learn to identify, analyze, communicate about, and influence the complex forces that shape the environment and living things. This minor pairs well with any major, broadening their path to pursue positions in government, private industry, and non-profit organizations.

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS:

  1. A 2.00 GPA in minor requirements.
  2. At least nine hours of the program requirements must be completed at Truman State University.
  3. All courses may double count with a student’s major, minor, or the Dialogues requirements.

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS:

This minor requires at least 16 total hours, including

  • at least two credits of community learning;
  • at least six credits at the 300+ level, and
  • at least one course (three or more credits) from two of the three areas: Science, Social Science, and Arts and Humanities.
  • No more than 8 credits from any prefix other than ENVS may be counted towards the minor.

*Courses listed below with an asterisk may have substantial prerequisites that do not count towards the minor and/or seats may be limited to students in a particular major.

With the approval of the Environmental Studies Program Committee (who may seek appropriate documentation and consult with the instructor), other courses, including independent study and directed readings, may be allowed to count for the ENVS minor for a specific student if sufficient appropriate work is done (such as by choosing an appropriate topic for a major term paper).
