Students must satisfy the Missouri Statute requirement and additional coursework to complete a minimum of 9 credits from at least 2 prefixes.

All students receiving baccalaureate degrees must comply with the provisions of Missouri Statute 170.011. Students may meet the requirement of this law by taking one of the following courses at Truman:

*Students who satisfactorily complete a higher level math course such as MATH 192 - Essentials of Calculus MATH 194 - LAS Calculus MATH 196 - Calculus and Mathematical Concepts for Life Science , MATH 198 - Analytic Geometry and Calculus I , or MATH 263 - Analytic Geometry and Calculus II  have completed the mathematical component of the STEM Perspective requirement.

Additional STEM course (3 credits):


Select from the following or any of the STEM Perspective courses listed above not used to complete the Lab Science or the Pre-calculus or Calculus requirements. If the third course is a mathematics course, it must be a STEM Perspective course numbered MATH 190 or higher.

Writing-Enhanced Courses


All students must complete one writing-enhanced Junior Interdisciplinary Seminar (JINS) course and two additional writing-enhanced courses (Preferably one writing-enhanced course should be completed in the major and one writing-enhanced course should be completed outside the major). Selected courses may fulfill other requirements. Writing-enhanced courses are designated with a “WE” before the course title in the Schedule of Classes and on transcripts.

Junior Interdisciplinary Writing-Enhanced Seminar (3 credits):


Select one JINS course for 3 credits to satisfy the Junior Interdisciplinary Writing-Enhanced Seminar requirement.

Intercultural Perspective (0*-6 credits):


(May double-count with other Perspectives, major, or minor requirements)

All Study Abroad experiences approved for academic credit at Truman fulfill the Intercultural Perspective Requirement.

Foreign Language (0-8 credits):


The Foreign Language requirement may be satisfied by successful completion of the first year of a single foreign language, or by demonstrating elementary proficiency as determined by a proficiency examination, or by successful completion of an intermediate or higher level foreign language course. As a proficiency requirement, courses used to demonstrate proficiency may be used to satisfy other degree requirements.

Truman Symposium and Self & Society/Transfer Seminar (2-4 credits):


Students must complete a Truman Symposium and Self & Society/Transfer Seminar during their first semester at Truman. (*Course is major specific.)
