Sociology Minor

Sociology is the study of social life, social change and the causes and consequences of human behavior. Sociologists seek to understand interactions and connections among institutions, organizations, groups and individuals and develop an understanding of how they work together in society.

Through the scientific study of society and human behavior, students of sociology learn about the major theories of sociology and examine the role social institutions, groups, organizations, gender, race, and social class play in interactions within small groups like the family and much larger groups like whole societies.

When students pursue a sociology minor, they add to their intellectual foundation and enhance their social awareness of the factors that influence patterns in the social world around them. They learn how to ask thoughtful questions and use their critical thinking skills to discover what shapes the social world.

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS:

1. A 2.00 GPA in minor requirements.
2. At least nine hours of the program requirements must be completed at Truman State University.
3. A minimum of 15 credits in minor courses.
4. Sociology/Anthropology majors wanting to receive the Anthropology or Sociology Minor may not count courses toward their major as applying to the minor.
