Affiliation: Interdisciplinary Studies
Students pursuing a minor in Legal Studies will study the law in an interdisciplinary framework and develop a critical understanding of the myriad of ways the law intersects with almost every aspect of society. This minor will enhance students’ ability to be civically engaged and enter career fields requiring knowledge of the law, including those considering law school.
The Legal Studies Minor requires a minimum of 6 courses and a minimum of 18 credits across a minimum of 3 disciplines (prefixes). There are two required courses, JUST 307 - American Law & Society and (either) POL 161 - American National Government or POL 262 - American State and Local Government .
The remaining 12 credits can be chosen from two list: Core Electives and Supporting Electives. Students can take 6-9 credits, or even all of the remaining 12 credits, from the Core Electives list. Supporting electives are optional, yet highly recommended. Supporting electives include a broad range of coursework that provides invaluable interdisciplinary context to the study and understanding of the law, its impact on society, and strongly supports the preparation of students for law school or graduate legal studies.
