HIST 3104 - Historiography of the Modern United States

A topical survey of American history from the Gilded Age to the very recent past with emphasis on understanding the development of divergent, sometimes conflicting, interpretations on subjects central to understanding America’s past. Students successfully completing this course learn how historical interpretation is shaped by theory, scientific method, moral and political choices, and the application of methodologies drawn from other disciplines. This course or its equivalent for pre-1877 US history, HIST 3103 - US History and Historiography, Through Reconstruction, is required of all history majors during their first year as a declared history major.
