Data Science Minor


A data science minor provides an introduction into the field of data science - a professional that draws on insights from statistics and computer science to explore, visualize and interpret large volumes of data and draw actionable conclusions. Grounded in the liberal arts, but mindful of the needs of the marketplace, the Data Science minor provides a valuable supplement to a wide range of majors that lead to careers where data and its interpretation may be of importance. Students considering this minor should consult with their advisor and/or data science faculty to consider whether the Data Science Minor, the Data Science Foundations Certificate, and/or the Business Analytics Certificate best meet their needs. A Data Science concentration also exists within the Statistics major.

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • A 2.50 GPA in the minor is required with no grade of a D or lower.
  • At least nine hours of the program requirements must be completed at Truman State University.
  • Courses in the minor may be used to fulfill requirements for the Dialogues, as well as Bachelor of Science or major requirements for other programs, as those programs allow.
  • A Statistics Major may only earn this minor by completing the CS option.
  • A Computer Science Major may only earn this minor by completing the Statistics option.
  • Students of other majors may choose either option (CS or Statistics).

Minor Requirements: 22 Hours


Statistics Option: Six additional credit hours


CS Option: Six additional credit hours
