MISSION

The mission of Truman’s Master of Arts in Leadership program is to graduate ethically-aware prospective business and civic leaders who are effective communicators, team leaders, critical thinkers, and problem solvers.

GOALS/OBJECTIVES

The Master of Arts in Leadership program: 

  • Uses effective teaching and learning strategies with appropriate technologies to prepare students for rapidly evolving leadership positions.
  • Engages with business professionals, civic leaders, and community members to enhance student learning and readiness for the workforce.
  • Emphasizes the importance and value of:
    • Visionary and transformational leadership
    • Ethical awareness
    • Informed decision making
    • Effective written and oral communications
    • Critical and creative thinking
    • Change management and adaptability
    • Resolving conflict and solving problems

This degree is designed for people who have earned a baccalaureate degree and find themselves wanting to think more intentionally about how to work in and with organizations to advance professional and personal goals. Some may be contemplating a change in career; others may want to add an emphasis to prior professional credentials and experience. Still others may realize that to really excel in their career choice, they need to acquire a greater understanding of how to lead and navigate organizations and how to build successful relations within and among organizations.

CURRICULAR DESIGN

The curriculum for Truman’s Master of Arts in Leadership consists of a 18 credit common core, a 6 credits of electives, and a capstone aligned with a culminating project or internship and evaluation to reach 30 credit hours. This is a fully online program (however some elective options are only offered in-person). 

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

To be considered for admission, students must meet the following requirements:

  • Hold a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution.
  • Have a cumulative grade point average of 2.75 or higher. 
  • Submit three letters of recommendation.

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS

Each Master of Arts in Leadership candidate must satisfy the following requirements:

  • Have a cumulative 3.0 GPA in all courses taken to fulfill the requirements of the program.
  • Complete at least 24 credits of required courses at Truman.

Degree Requirements: 30 Credits


Culminating Experience Capstone with Project or Internship: 6 Credits
