MISSION STATEMENT

With change being the only constant in our lives, higher education has a responsibility to prepare students to meet new and unexpected challenges. Truman recognizes its responsibility to Missouri, the nation, and the world to prepare students who possess international understanding and potential for leadership. The University also recognizes that worldwide understanding is a characteristic of liberal arts education.

Truman recognizes that boundaries between peoples, cultures and countries of the world are becoming less significant. Therefore, the realities and possibilities of globalizing the Truman curriculum are to be explored. Expansion of foreign language and culture programs, additional agreements with international institutions, and increases in the number of Truman students and faculty participating in study abroad programs are identified means of promoting international understanding.

Truman strives to improve existing programs and develop new ones. Students are encouraged to contact the Center for International Education Abroad (CIEA) to get the latest information on Truman study abroad programs. The Center also provides information regarding how study abroad program credits can be applied to core curriculum, foreign language, or the major or minor program degree requirements. It takes time to plan and finance a study abroad experience, so students are strongly encouraged to find out about these exciting opportunities early, ideally in their first year at Truman.
